   the reality is that blind people on the fediverse use Tusky or Amaroq because both of those apps play nice with screen readers. the web client is entirely unusable.

     tired: bullying people for not using alt-text (even though they can't use Mastodon anyway except through apps)
     
     wired: spending that time to make mastodon web client actually work with screen readers
     
     (unfortunately the column layout is going to be impossible for a blind person to successfully navigate, but simple mode could be fixed :))

     this is also why Pleroma FE does not do the firehose effect by default. you simply cannot do firehose and not have it confuse the fuck out of screen readers. this is also why Twitter stepped back from doing firehose too.
