     I am Japanese and a lot of that post is hyperbole.
     
     The part about cops is objectively wrong though. Japanese police are actually incentivized to NOT arrest people because they are evaluated based on conviction rate, which is why there are many publicized cases of obviously guilty suspects walking free because the police don't want to cuff someone unless they're sure they can get a conviction. The worst they do is search and question suspicious looking people (foreigners, especially Nigerians and Iranians) because weaker 4th amendment type rights.
