@djsumdog @p @fluffy the problem is that, maybe you are able to give your own life meaning through things that you are passionate about, but what about the people who are unable to do that. it would be those people who usually turn to religion to have some meaning in their life, and there's an argument to be made that it keeps them less destructive than if they were to turn to something like socialism.

when the people massively turn to nihilism, it opens the doors to very malevolent people to be able to manipulate those of the nihilists that happen to be weak minded. as a result you get the leftist zealots of today and, even worse, in positions of power. dostievsky isn't exactly wrong when he says "people cant make their own values", its that his quote is often misinterpreted to mean "if you no believe god, you bad" which is not correct.

so far as i can tell, the correct meaning is that the culture we live in is derived from religion and philosophy, and that the law is derived from the culture, thus forming, sort of a pyramid diagram. the religion itself attempts to keep values constant through dogma, and philosophers like Aristotle attempt to make unbeatable arguments based in truth for the benefit of everyone, thus slow and gradual change through trial and error is able to land society as well as individuals in a better position. discrediting all of the dogma altogether allows "revolutionaries" to throw all of the ideas that are good out of the window simply because the religion isnt perfect and sill has bad ideas.

in today's society, religion is not taken seriously even for the good things that its able to offer, and any philosophical roots of western civilization are never mentioned in the education system. so from where do we currently derive our list of human rights and our laws and regulations? from leftist rhetoric, which is able to justify violence towards an individual based on his political views, and group guilt for acts that the individuals of today never took part in, and the act of purposely disadvantaging one individual over another based on race and gender, despite the value that the individual produces to society which should instead be rewarded and motivated wherever it appears.

it goes contrary to the idea that every individual matters and that every individual has self-determination based on which he should be judged, formally known as the quotes "every man is made in the image of god" and "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps"

But who wants to bother learning all those complex things if the world will end in 12 years anyway. that's the nihilist's unproductive perspective, which is unhelpful to those who already don't have anything going for them, or haven't yet figured out how to make the most of what they've taken for granted.
