she paid 200k for 'acting and english'.these people were lied to in a way that's close to criminal.

@mono @lain money and stable jobs aren't going to teachers...
-
@lain the education system should not be allowed to lobby for it's own interests. teachers, academics and administrators need to be put in their place (a shallow grave)
-
apparently the federal government owns over 90% of student loans. guess it all makes sense then.
-
same situation as the housing bubble
-
banks should never have given loans for this
-
@mono @lain have known a lot of really nice teachersdo it because actually wanting to help people and do nice research, putting up with mess to do ithow that kind of job goes these days, teaching, libraries, body of people chasing them for the sake of morals, so they do more work than is expected of them, so admin "optimises" by removing resources, vicious cycle
-
@shmibs @lain teachers don't do shit and bitch constantly over anything that would objectively measure their effectiveness like standardized testing and gradesas a class of people they can't be trusted to measure their own worth.
-
@mono @lain is one of the (i guess three?) big capitalism-issues that needs solving; when people work from altruism they get taken advantage of, and so you end up with any social functions designed to help people being trashed
-
@mono @lain it doesn't matter if it's "stupid". some people have empathy and are idealists and work because they care about others rather than money. and as long as that sort of person exists the systemic problem does too.
-
@shmibs @lain working from "altruism" is for stupid people no matter what system it is under. your commissar gives no shits if you break your back to produce an extra 10% above quota because you love your country. it means you believe your labor is overvalued.a majority of resources in compulsory education is wasted on the bottom percentage of children who fuck it up for everyone else because schools are a unholy fusion of prison and pediatric ward. teaching bright students costs almost nothing. babysitting fetal alcohol syndrome kids costs everything.

@hector @lain @mono tenure doesn't happen any more
-
@shmibs @lain @mono what makes you think teachers are doing it solely out of altruism when they get benefits unparalleled in today's private sector like "tenure" for job security and a defined benefit pension plan?
