   @nik @vriska mmm, but it's gotten to be universities generally, not just publication (or uni admin at least). university research today is taking on all the bad parts of for-profit research companies do (directed and no-freedom-to-ask-questions-y, has to be "for a good reason" etc) without any of the good parts (funding and job security), and now some companies are "partnering" with universities to just get students to do their research for them directly

     @vriska the relationship between actual researchers and academics and the parasitic institutions they work for/with is really strangewas just thinking about this actually cause was reading about elsevier
