They then sought to drive independent operators out of business. Even GTE (now Verizon) felt the pressure, even though they were a miniature version of AT&T. @Moon @djsumdog @se7en -

The result of the break up wasn't bad, but making it easier for competitors to come in. Would have been even better. -
