the chinese i met in universities were mostly not smart. they were also from very rich families, though, sending children overseas. is it different for poorer families? -

really i only just started to learn mandarin recently, so can't compare all. but i like japanese's sounds much better, more "clean"
when i was small, i grew with spanish, which also has clean sounds, so maybe it came naturally because of that -

maybe it's because i saw japanese characters first, and traditional ones are closer to them
for example, japanese uses 魚 , so 鱼 to me looks too strange
also though, i think they have more distinct shapes. the simplified ones look more similar, so harder for me to keep apart XX -

for me it's hard because of memorising which sounds go with which characters, just for mandarin. and trying to add cantonese or others would be 無理X_X
it's nice to have kind of familiar characters, but the mainland simplified ones are annoying. taiwan's traditional are nicer
