@lain@shmibs well, I've only started watching "real" entertainment recently, watched those series intended for german learners before. so far I've been watching mostly ww2 (der untergang, die faelscher) and east germany (das leben der anderen, good bye lenin) themed movies, because that's what non-germans usually recommend for german movies. though I got kinda tired of "serious" stuff and picked up a netflix series called "how to sell drugs online (fast)" last week, it's kind of cringe but the plot is interesting enough to keep me going and the characters speak german simple enough I don't have to look up a new word every 15 seconds
@nosleep reminded me of a story back from 7th grade. I was attending programming courses provided for free by $BIG_ENTERPRISE and there was a guy with "I ❤️ YAOI" pin on his backpack sitting close to me. didn't ask him about it, though I did think it was kinda brave to come out like that in russia. one day I came to the auditorium early and found him desperately searching for something, we had the following dialogue:- What's up? What are you searching for?- The yaoi pin I had on my backpack seems to have fallen somewhere...- Oh? Well, if you need a new one, I saw the same ones in the anime merch store 2 metro stations from here.- Yeah, but this one was given to me by my girlfriend.- ...Excuse me?

rinpatchfound out about reduction of unstressed о and а to one sound in russian recently, only because I saw a bunch of belarussian words that are similar to russian, except having unstressed 'о's swapped with 'а's and wondered why is that. kinda weird how I always knew about it on a subconscious level, but never actually realized it
@lain@lanodan you're joking but I just remembered my friend self-taught himself polish in 2 years for literally no reason other than "I was bored and it sounded kinda cool"

rinpatchthe whole situation with me and german is quite a bruh moment. after a year of learning the language I pulled a galaxy brain move and dropped all plans that needed the language. and now I don't have a use for it, nor do I want to drop it since all the effort I put in just started to bear fruit. I could probably use the time wasted to do something useful for uni instead (i.e competitive programming for russian unis, or learning the country's language for foreign unis that teach in english), but like, I am afraid of another galaxy brain move later that will render those efforts useless as well
@lanodan ikr. I should've evaluated my perspectives before starting the language, but 15 year old rin just wanted to have fun and 16 year old rin was too busy to re-evaluate
