there was a picture from about a hundred years ago that said "what americans will look like a hundred years from now" and the two people were tanned and covered with tattoos. I thought it was bullshit when I was a kid but it came true

@ic3l9 @shmibs The artist is 粟岳高弘 (Awatake Takahiro) and he has dozens of books going back to the 1990s.

I think Joe Biden might be, some kind of German fairy-tale fairy, like he's made out of wood but only painted on one side so if you could get to the side of him real fast you'd see he's hollow. And he can't be killed unless you find his hidden shoes in the black forest where his fay spirit is kept.

@shmibs @orekix writing this down (I mean bookmarking post)
-
@shmibs @orekix mainly got hooked on brain stuff because it didn't seem like many people came at phenomenology with any scientific knowledge
-
@shmibs @orekix (obviously daniel dennett but poo on him
-
@shmibs @orekix don't like her?
-
@orekix @shmibs I am pretty sure that was it.
-
@shmibs I had a couple really good books about I guess philosophy and information systems, the author was a woman and it was written in like the 60s but I didn't come across it when I was getting rid of my books. I just remember being slightly surprised because there aren't a ton of prominent women philosophers.
-
@shmibs I can't think of a second favorite book but what I've been thinking about lately are two thingsThere's an apocryphal book of the Bible called the Book of Adam and Eve that I really like. It is just really fanciful and descriptive. The other is a manga by a guy who is obsessed with cement structures, he makes these short comics set in 昭和 countryside with young women who find secrets or do mild exhibitionism. They just really are evocative of a specific time, place and feeling. He's been drawing them since the 1990s. It's kind of embarrassing to admit but I just like everything he does.
-
@shmibs I have just finally reached a point where I can admit what I like without feeling self-conscious
-
@shmibs what's your second favorite book
-
It's kinda funny that people loved bill gates when he was ruining everything and now he's (I guess) trying to help and everybody hates him lol
-
@shmibs I think it was written for younger readers or a general audience but it's just so much fun
-
@shmibs @BigDuck @WashedOutGundamPilot huh, well, I believe I kept mine when I dumped all my books, so if I can find it I'll mail it to you
-
@shmibs I don't have a favorite philosopher because that's gay but I like Alfred North Whitehead
-
@shmibs @BigDuck @WashedOutGundamPilot they're cheap, you can get them for like a dollar on ebay I think. I've given away about three copies and I always find a new one to buy at some bookstore.
-
@shmibs @BigDuck @WashedOutGundamPilot I know this seems like the kind of book I'd bring up to try to impress you but it really is my favorite book, you could use it to break into my online banking
-
@shmibs @BigDuck @WashedOutGundamPilot my favorite book is about a 15 year old girl in the 1920s that eloped with a national geographic photographer and then wrote about all the places she went
