@search_social@DK_Dharmaraj@PrettyHateMachine@racerealist@Moon@shmibs Huh? Look, the problem can't be so complex that you have to make a crappy metaphor to explain it, while also being so simple that "everyone knows the causal factors" already. And if the issue really was right wing cigarettes, whatever that is supposed to represent, then we can test that premise. Have achievement gaps disappeared in deep blue cities? What about in deep blue states?
@Moon@ethot movies in general were paced differently back then. Have you watched the OG star wars lately? I thought grail was hilarious in middle school, I think if I were watching it for the first time as an adult I wouldn't. I liked, but didn't love life of Brian, but maybe should give it a rewatch now.
@shmibsI would recommend it as a good introduction for someone new to crisper and gene editing concepts. It's nice and short too, which is great for someone who might not be sure if they're interested in the topic.I've done some reading on gene editing in the past, and while this book is newer than anything I've read before, it didn't add too much for me besides some updates on the regulatory and IP battles. If people liked this book but wanted more of the 'hacking' part, I recommend "Biopunk: Kitchen-Counter Scientists Hack the Software of Life"https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9521936-biopunk?ac=1
@Moon@lain@hj What are people reading now, I mean, besides still Atlas Shrugged.
I'm in the last 1/4 of Blue Mars, to wrap Kim Robinson's 'Mars changes colors' trilogy, and also reading The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August for my irl book club.
