    S3 Support will be shipping soon.

    We are taking a different approach, storing all media locally until its transcoded/post-processed and then upload to S3. After 24 hours or so local media will be purged.

    We will also ship a tool to move local media to the cloud or vice versa.

    A few benefits:
    - Object storage is cheap, you can increase account storage limits.
    - Resilient, Wasabi outages do not affect new uploads.
    - Redundancy, a future release will include support for multiple CDNs and the ability to serve photos and videos on different CDNs.

    Over the past few months, I have come to believe that free software is lagging behind not in terms of technology, but in marketing and UX.

    Most people just don't know that alternatives exist. UX also suffers because there is less diversity of users providing feedback. These two problems keep feeding each other.

    The popularity of Pixelfed is really taking off, so of course it's something I'd like to add to the PV experience.

    The only issue is that it's going to take a pretty considerable amount of resources to run smoothly.

    So I'll make you all a deal. If we can get Patreon up to 500 bones a month, I'll set up and maintain an official PV Pixelfed instance.
