I'm far from able the make any calls, but I would say hold ground and refuse to comply with anything short of a direct demand from the Store or a court order. Let them be the bad guy first.

Once app devs start balkanizing the Fediverse in the face of every PR smear, it will immediately be weaponized by every malicious partisan actor across the entire spectrum.

I'd be concerned about the precedent set in caving to that kind of pressure.

Possibly the most Japanese thing I've ever seen is a tripod mounted, freestanding speaker with an internal motion detector. It was at the entrance of an industrial facility, and if the sensor was tripped a recorded message would politely remind everyone not to walk with their hands in their pockets.
