@rice what a plot twist :p
-
@rice learn some elixir or javascript, remote jobs without end that pay a lot more than 700€ a month.
-
@eal @rice well, that's kind of the requirement for most CEOs.
-
@rice @lain @eal
it's usually only jerks who want positions like that, is all
think you could do a whole lot better, though, yeh
-
@rice @piggo @willtochaos it's amazing that you can find a way to justify that a cleaning lady earns more than an engineer.
-
@rice @kaniini
yeh, your caring about the other employees here is the reason why you'd be good for a leadership position
-
@rice @eal You could not be a good CEO right now because you are always looking for excuses when other people lie to you, because you want to believe that they are good people.
You need more business experience. And some money to actually start a business. So stop working for pennies and get a job that doesn't exploit you, even if it's only for a few years.
-
@rice @eal I'm not saying you are wrong, I think you could be a good boss and run a good company, but I feel you always think in extremes. There are a lot of things between low-pay wageslave and CEO, for example freelancing.
-
@kaniini @kurisu @rice this might also just be illegal.
-
@kaniini @kurisu @rice no, i mean, the thing in the contract. Sounds like something that the EU would have rules agains.
-
@rice @eal if you'd do JS and elixir i'd could find you a job in a week.
-
@rice @eal okay, the first thing you need to do is stop feeling guilty all the time :)
-
@rice @eal ... these guys are idiots. or rather, very naive.
-
@rice @eal
> study for 3 years
> 0 relevant experience
> don't get paid
> you think this is in any way normal
rice plz
-
@rice @newt @lain @eal I don't and never have worked in IT, but I have worked for free before, twice. Unpaid internships (tööpraktikad) are 100% legal. Often some crafts you study in schools require some X hours worked (usually free, sometimes paid, but damn is it impossible to find if you even dare mention "I need this for school". Better to never mention that).
But working for free is 100% bullshit, even in context of needing some hours worked to get your school quota met. Anyone who says otherwise is either uninformed/doesnt care or wants to exploit you/someone else.
If a work place tells you "oh you need to learn for 2 months first, then we'll see about hiring with pay", then it should already be a huge red flag for you. Lines like "you break more stuff than experienced workers" or "you're not bringing us money for the first (or 2) month(s)" are completely fabricated lies. If work is being done in any form, money is being made, shit is always being broken and problems need solving, doesn't matter if it's you the new hire or the 30 year worker based god.
You, as workforce, are their investment for the future, its the employer's problem if they make a mistake. Free workforce is abuse of those workers (null-risk investment for employers after all).
tl;dr : Fuck unpaid internships and ask for a raise whenever your responsibility increases.
