@cgervasi I can't say I "like" that, but yes, I get what you mean.
> You seem like a native speaker of English
Thanks for that! I don't think that's true, but thanks nonetheless :)
Yeah, then you know perfectly what I mean. For a casual conversation, I'm ok with english, but when things get nuanced, I spend a lot of time trying to make myself clear.
@cgervasi I hear you. I've seen lots of "fake news" in newspapers and TV long before social media.
But it's quite clear to me that me that "the old world of gatekeepers" include the bigtech companies.
The thing happening in the #Fediverse right now (well, it has been for some years, but now we are more people), although not perfect (and possibly will never be) seems to me the path to follow: self-regulating communities. And of course: sure, a more democratic way of moderation is desirable, and most of the big instances will have a bad time sooner or later because of the high number of people.
... And right now I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing. Sorry, really big issues in discussion here, and it's harder to express them in english for me 😅
@cgervasi I totally get it, and (mostly) agree with you. It's just that billionaires (and particulary bigtech ones) have proven time after time that their bussiness model is to make society worse. I know, it's subjective, but I think widely agreed upon.
I mean, what platforms have been crucial to spread bigotry and conspiracy theories? The ones from the bigtech billionaires.
@cgervasi I don't think we are there yet, but #Fediverse is meant to be a space for everyone. Billionaires have the money, contacts, etc to have their own platforms, let us have at least one nice thing, please :)
@jorge No me parece ninguna tontería.
Me gusta :)
@kerfuffle I can see your good intentions, but, honestly, I think the alternatives you provide are just the same: bigtech companies that benefit from user data traffic.
