@lain@hj@robby Oh shit. Well if we’re going there, the whole universe could have been created 5 minutes ago because you can’t prove it wasn’t. All our memories were just fabricated 5 minutes ago.
Since I’m banned from communicating with ActivityPub spec authors and they see no problem with it, they shouldn’t be surprised if I don’t follow their rules. The only path forward for me is to build my own network, and that’s exactly what I plan to do.
@r I went into cwebber’s video call and asked him to self-host so I could communicate with him (I’m blocked from Octodon) and he basically said “blah blah upholding community standards blah blah I’m happy with it”
My take on #ParlerHacked - user data wasn’t compromised, but they proved they’re careless about security. “Behind multiple layers” actually says nothing. Is the database port firewalled? What type of authentication does it use? Social networks NEED technical founders. This is the perfect demonstration for why.
It’s a snapshot of home.parler.com Jul 17, 2020. There’s no denying this was on their domain. The question is whether it really matters. Best case scenario those keys were useless all along. Worst case scenario they leaked database credentials to their WordPress website. Either way the founder is lying. About what we expected.
@georgia@Meeper Nginx is not strictly necessary in most cases. Pleroma for example runs its own webserver in Elixir. Nginx is usually used as a middleman, to do useful stuff like redirecting http to https, caching certain routes, and serving static files much faster than the upstream server can.
I’ve already watched the video of someone dying at shit point. You think I can’t handle the comments section? Absolutely awful UX. And I thought privacy scopes were bad. Even with its limitations, UX on the fediverse is way better than New Reddit.
There’s a lot of negativity around JavaScript as a language from programming nerds… and yeah, it’s bad, we know. But it’s the language of the web. If you want to do something on the web, you’ve gotta use it. ???? Less time complaining, more time building.
@ServerStatus@adam@mcread@mhjohnson@eriner@AzurusNova > 12GBHere's a preview of the performance benefits of switching to Pleroma, after we migrated spinster.xyz (~14K users) from Mastodon to Pleroma. It has some bombshell features Mastodon doesn't, such as Emoji Reacts and Chats. Mastodon is stagnating while Pleroma is innovating. Most importantly, the devs will work with you instead of against you. Wouldn't it be nice if you could request features, or even contribute code? It would empower you and us both. Seems important to the longevity of the site.
@noellabo Interesting it's written in Crystal. All Pleroma servers have a built-in relay, eg https://gleasonator.com/relay It makes hosting a bit easier.
