@sjw @p look guys, I value free speech a great deal and I have been very nice about opinions that I find revolting. I have deliberatly stepped back and not started shit about it and this is how you repay me?Neither C++ or js are joking matters, what if a child gets into contact with this filth. We might have another js or c++ developer on our hands and you will be to blame. Next thing you know there will youngsters unironically using Emacs, like those who died and got maimed in the editor wars of the 90s meant nothing. Do better! -

@coolboymew @lanodan @shebang @tuxcrafting during my lifetime I have seen gender integration happen within many fields including news anchors, police, firefighters, military personnel etc.I then witnessed the sexual orientation integration that followed.The pattern is always the same "we can't focus on this particular issue because it will hurt our main mission".Is there cases when things have been done in a bad way? Yes.Did it end up destroying organisations? Very rarely. -

@coolboymew @lanodan @shebang @tuxcrafting the change to allow women in the military was a law change. The change to ACCEPT women in the military was not, that was a change in culture.If one were to look at who are generally involved in FOSS the problem is pretty glaring. If one were to talk to people in the community that aren't white young men then they could even tell you what the problem is.The lack of diversity is waste since we're missing out on a lot of talent. -

@coolboymew @lanodan @shebang @tuxcrafting why would autism even be part of this discussion?I have plenty of autistic traits. I also have a man-bun, barefoot sandals and an understanding of systemic injustice.I see no problems with diversity but I do see a general lack of it in the FOSS world. If someone doesn't see that as a problem I'm fine with that but when one starts seeing diversity as a threat I feel there might be room for some discussion. My general stance is that if my actions make someone feel unwelcome then I need to figure out how to make them feel welcome instead (because I very rarely want people to feel unwelcome). I of course agree that the strive for diversity can be done in good and bad ways, assuming that it will be done in a bad way seems rather premature in my book.
