Then one day you get a subpoena, you have to appear in court as a witness. You try to explain to the prosecutor that you didn't see anything, you've never met any of these people, you don't know what the case is about, but the prosecutor just says that you'll have to testify regardless.
You get on the stand, and the prosecutor asks you questions, and your mouth is moving, words are coming out, but you can't stop them. Not your words. You panic, you try to leave the stand, but you don't have control of your own body. The prosecutor is holding up a security camera photo of you getting out of a car at the gas station with the defendant, he's asking "Is this you in the photo?" You're trying to scream but instead you tell him it's you. He asks if you remember the photo. You don't, but your body is saying that you remember the night very clearly. He asks what you did after you left the gas station. You continue to testify.
Says on the news they executed him. You don't know what to do, you can't drink alcohol any more. The body stops you from suicide every time. There's no way out. You try to figure out who did it, how, but your eyes keep malfunctioning every time something happens. You can't think straight, your every action tinged by the realization that your body isn't your own any more.
Behind a nearby bush, you see a bearded man, sitting cross-legged. He eats something he picked off his foot. Nasty. He tells you that you should have installed Gentoo. That you shouldn't have trusted proprietary software. He starts claiming to have invented emacs. You draw a gun that you didn't realize you were carrying, and, to your own horror, you open fire immediately. -

@WIR You have restrictions, they're your decision and no one else's, and consequently, you are not a slave.
By your line of reasoning, your job enslaves you, the landlord or the bank enslaves you, the local grocery store enslaves you, the phone company enslaves you. If you stop doing any of these things, no one will beat you for disobedience. They won't throw you in the hole. They won't sell you to row a galley. No one is compelling you but yourself.
If you are alone on an island, you have perfect self-determination. You've still got to build fires, catch crabs, gather coconuts. At the end of the day, you've worked hard and all you have to show for it is that you lived another day. You're not getting ahead in life. You don't have an iPhone. If you want to build a little domicile, you've got to work even harder tomorrow. -

Written words are not "speech" if you're going to be overly narrow about the term. Speech itself is symbolic communication; images are anotehr form.

This is because there's a distinction between communicating opinions and communicating directives. (If you want to read up on this, H.P. Grice and John Searle wrote about this extensively.) That's what I was getting at with the difference between a random person saying someone is guilty and a jury saying someone is guilty. (Or, if you like, the difference between saying "I like steaks" and "Make me a steak".) There's a distinction--an important one--between an action carried out by means of speaking, and speech intended to convey information. -
